Brioche Knitting with Susan Dewey: Session 1

 This class meets in two sessions.  The first class will include how to create a piece of knitting using the 2-color brioche techniques. After about an hour (or maybe less) we will move on to increases and decreases. Students will leave the class with a swatch and the start of their hat band (or scarf or headband).

Skills taught & topics discussed:

-- 2 color brioche knitting;

-- increasing and decreasing in brioche knitting;

-- provisional cast on;

-- stretchy cast off;

-- maintaining knitting stitch counts - or if you want to add in stitches, you'll have to take them away somewhere else.

-- reading your knitting

Materials needed:

-- 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn. We need about 150 yards of each color to make the hat.

-- additional yarn for swatching and practice;

-- extra waste yarn for provisional cast on

Equipment:

-- 16" needle US #6 or #8. The nature of brioche knitting is fairly loose, so you want a needle that is a bit smaller than the one you would normally use.

-- double pointed needles of the same size for the crown;

-- yarn needle for grafting;

-- stitch markers - at least one to mark the beginning and end of your crown / ribbing

Instructor will provide:

-- pictures documenting the brioche procedures;

-- charted pattern describing the process of making the hat;

-- links for YouTube and other resources on the net;

-- books by Nancy Marchant for perusing

Cost: $30.00 per session
